Corel Painter

What is a RIFF file?

RIFF or Resource Interchange File Format was developed by Microsoft and currently used as a native format for Corel Painter. It is a Raster Image file format used for creating digital paintings. This format supports multiple layers of raster graphics on a canvas. That allows the artists to modify the canvas whenever they want. It is more like block-structured, where each block contains a header ID and a size. This feature enables a program to only recognize the known parts of the file and avoid the processing of unnecessary bytes of the file.

How to open RIFF files

  1. Know the location of the RIFF file you want to open.
  2. Launch Painter and select File> Open. Or from the home menu select “Open Document”.
  3. When the file explorer opens select the file(s) you wish to open and select Open.
  4. Edit the RIFF file using Painters many digital painting features, brushes, and tools.
  5. Before closing be sure to name and save the file. File> Save As. Then name the file as desired.
